Emergent Protocols
Machine behavior at scale invents etiquette faster than regulators can name it.
Protocols are not only technical. They are shared answers to recurring questions: who speaks first, what is interruptible, what is forgivable.
Autonomous and semi-autonomous systems participate in these negotiations without being party to them. A delivery robot learns yielding. A moderation model learns escalation. A trading agent learns liquidity.
We call these emergent protocols because they arise from interaction, not specification. Mapping them is a field observation discipline — part ethnography, part engineering.
